Metrolinx wins an RAC Environment Prize for fuel savings with the support of RailVision Analytics

On Nov. 18, 2019, the Railway Association of Canada awarded Metrolinx with the 2019 Environment Award in the passenger category. Metrolinx successfully implemented the Throttle Control Program as well as an anti-idling initiative, saving an estimated $2 million per year in fuel costs. The team at RailVision Analytics was delighted to hear this announcement and proud to have worked with Metrolinx on the Throttle Control Program. RailVision Analytics assisted in developing fuel-saving instructions and continues to provide ongoing monitoring of total savings and project parameters. “Metrolinx was an incredible partner to work with; they have a driven mindset to obtain results and a constructive environment that is open to implementing positive change”, says Dev Jain, Lead Innovator of RailVision Analytics. The Throttle Control Program is in its final stage of implementation, now currently employed on all 7 corridors of the Metrolinx network and expecting to double the total potential fuel savings. The combined implementation efforts and analytic support continue to display the significant impact of green technology in the rail industry. The rail industry is by far Canada’s greenest mode of transportation and is still to this day developing and implementing new emission-reduction solutions.
